Australian newspapers are having great fun this week with a quote about U.S. President Donald Trump, and it prompts us to announce ALERT’s very first contest.
The Australian Media Science Centre asked ALERT director Bill Laurance whether U.S. President Donald Trump was taking climate change seriously enough, in light of the fact that 2016 was just declared the hottest year ever recorded.
Laurance said, “I think somebody should fry an egg on the sidewalk and then send through a photo to Trump. He doesn’t seem to believe the science but maybe he’d get that.”
A number of Australian media outlets have joined in, trying to “eggsplain” climate change to Trump.
Time for a Contest
A journalist for Time Magazine asked if it really is possible to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Laurance wasn’t sure, so it’s time to put this theory to the test.
The rules are simple:
Just send us a photo with an egg frying on a sidewalk or pavement. Tell us the location, local temperature, and exactly how long it took for your egg to fry (turn white). Funny details are welcome.
Email your entry to Jaime.Huther@jcu.edu.au by February 10.
The winner is the fastest egg-cooker, or maybe the person with the funniest story. We’ll send your photo and details to President Trump via the White House Media Office, as well as to a half-million ALERT readers and 800 media outlets worldwide.
It’s time to get frying, folks.
Let’s show Trump and his ilk that the world really is getting hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk—something even they can understand.
